Plain Answers

Ask before you worry.

The questions people actually ask about family law, answered the way Jacob answers them: plainly.

General information, not legal advice. Contacting the firm does not create an attorney-client relationship. Have a different question? Contact the office or see all practice areas.

Texas courts decide custody, legally called "conservatorship," based on the best interest of the child, and most parents share rights and duties in some form. Where your case lands depends on the facts, and that's exactly what the consultation is for: an honest read on where you stand.

Texas has a 60-day waiting period after filing before a divorce can be final, and most take longer. How much longer depends on property, children, and how much the two sides agree. Jacob will give you a realistic picture for your situation, not a sales pitch.

Not always. Many family matters resolve through negotiation or mediation, which is usually faster, cheaper, and easier on children. When court is necessary, you'll walk in prepared.

Orders can be modified when circumstances change in a meaningful way: a move, a job change, a safety concern. Bring your current order to the consultation and Jacob will tell you plainly whether a modification is worth pursuing.
