Home/Meet the Firm
The people behind the firm.
J Ramsey Law is small on purpose: one experienced trial attorney and a legal assistant who treats every caller like a neighbor. Because around here, you are.

The Attorney
Trial experience earned the hard way: in trial.
Jacob Ramsey is an experienced litigator who began his career at the Freestone County District Attorney’s Office, where he served as First Assistant District Attorney from 2019 to 2023. It was a two-lawyer office, the elected District Attorney and Jacob, which meant trying first-degree felonies to juries straight out of law school. There he tried every type of criminal offense the State brings, felonies and misdemeanors alike, in jury trials and bench trials before the Judge. It is the kind of courtroom experience most lawyers never get, and it can’t be learned from a book.
Today Jacob puts that experience to work on the other side of the aisle, defending people accused of crimes. He knows how the State builds its case, because he built those cases himself, and he knows where they come apart.
The rest of his practice covers the legal moments East Texas families actually face: divorce and child custody, real estate litigation, title work and document preparation for closings, probate and estate planning, and personal injury, which is where his career started: two years clerking at a Houston personal injury firm during law school. Today he handles every kind of injury claim himself, including car and 18-wheeler wrecks on I-45 and Highway 84.

Beyond the Courtroom
Husband, dad, neighbor.
Jacob and his wife Megan have been married for eight years, and their story starts the way a lot of good Texas stories do: at church. He was in law school; she was an accountant in Houston, a Dallas Baptist University graduate working for her uncle’s firm. They met at Second Baptist Church’s Woodway campus, and the rest followed.
Megan grew up in Montalba, Texas, and after enough time on her family’s 130-acre ranch, the question was never whether to leave the city, only how soon. They moved to Fairfield as quickly as they could, and they’re raising their three daughters here.
Before the law there was baseball: Jacob played in college and has loved sports ever since. When court’s out, you’ll find the Ramseys at the ranch, at a ballgame, or on the road on a family trip.
That matters more than it might seem. When you hire Jacob, you’re trusting someone with one of the biggest problems of your life. He treats it that way, because his clients aren’t case numbers. They’re the people he goes to church with, waves to on the square, and sits beside at Friday night games.
